Inspired by artists such as Agnes Obel, Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan, Ben Howard, and SYML, The Small Kingdoms is a solo project formed by Darren Guyaz in the fall of 2023. His compositions overlay grand piano and vocals with rich harmonies, drums, contrabass, cello, and violin. Having recorded four albums and toured nationally and internationally with his previous project, his music spans multiple genres, with elements of folk, pop, orchestral, chamber and rock.

The Small Kingdoms’s debut album ‘Who I Am” was released on the first day of Spring in March 2025. Glide Magazine’s review of the album, “Who I Am” wrote, “Ripe with lush harmonies, strings, and a myriad of instruments, the album soars over a range of emotional terrain. It’s an album that hooks upon first listen, calling one back to dig deeper into its sonic landscape.”
